As American homeowners, we take a lot of aspects of our home for granted; our lights, our clean running water, our drains, and the list goes on and on. We also tend take our HVAC systems for granted until they fail us. Then we are either freezing cold or sweltering hot in our own homes, and downright miserable. At which time we are desperate to get our systems fixed and get back to experiencing comfort in our homes. Unexpected breakdowns can be quite costly and inconvenient. You can prevent your HVAC system from malfunctioning by being mindful of the following five most common furnace and air problems.
If the thermostat in your HVAC system is not functioning properly, your system will not know what the correct temperature of your home is and whether it needs to be on, or produce hot or cold air.
Air Flow Problems
As with many other systems and even electronic items, air flow is very important. Without proper airflow, an HVAC system can succumb to poor heating control and overheating. Sometimes fan motors, belts, and bearings can also come into play with airflow problems.
Dirty or Clogged Filters
This is perhaps the easiest problem that homeowners can prevent. Change the air filter on your HVAC system at least every three months. Some models may require monthly filter changes. Check your owner’s manual for your HVAC system to be sure. This will keep your system running smoothly and prevent wearing the system down.
Furnace or Heating System Pilot or Ignition Control Problems
These types of problems can result in intermittent or even no heat. If your HVAC system cannot light, for whatever reason, it cannot create heat.
Lack of Maintenance
It is important to have your HVAC system maintenance on a regular basis to prevent problems and keep it running at its best. Not only can poor maintenance add up to costly repairs or replacements, it can also increase your home’s energy bills.
