Today’s homes run on a lot more than outlets and light switches. Your Wi-Fi, security cameras, video doorbell, smart thermostat, and home theater all depend on low-voltage wiring working quietly behind the walls. When that wiring is messy, outdated, or installed incorrectly, you end up with dropped connections, flickering screens, and devices that never quite work right.

At Air Solutions AC & Furnace Repair, Plumbing & Electrical, we’ve been serving Tulsa families since 1997. Our team installs low-voltage wiring that’s neat, organized, and built to last. Whether it’s one new camera or a whole-home network, we’ll make sure everything is connected correctly from the start.

Common Low-Voltage Applications in Today's Homes

Low-voltage wiring shows up in more places around your home than you might think. Some of the most common uses include:

  • Home internet and Ethernet
  • Security cameras
  • Video doorbells
  • Smart thermostats
  • Home theater and audio
  • Landscape lighting
  • Under-cabinet lighting
  • Smart home hubs and sensors

Many Tulsa homeowners are moving away from relying only on Wi-Fi for everything. A wired Ethernet connection to your TV, gaming console, or home office gives you faster, steadier speeds without the dead spots. That’s especially helpful in larger homes and older houses with thick plaster walls that block wireless signals.

Smart thermostats are another big one, and they’re a natural fit for us. Since we also handle heating and cooling, we know how thermostat wiring connects to your HVAC system. Many older thermostats don’t have the common wire that newer smart models need, and we can run it so your thermostat works properly with your furnace and AC.

Types of Low-Voltage Systems We Support

Every home has different needs, and our team works with a wide range of systems. Low-voltage systems we support include:

  • Structured network cabling
  • Coaxial cable for TV
  • Security camera systems
  • Doorbell and intercom wiring
  • Thermostat and HVAC controls
  • Speaker and surround sound wiring
  • Outdoor and landscape lighting
  • Smart home device wiring

Outdoor systems take some extra planning in Tulsa. Our humid summers, heavy spring rains, and occasional ice storms are hard on exposed wiring and connections. We use weather-rated cable and sealed connections for outdoor cameras and lighting so moisture doesn’t cause corrosion or shorts down the road.

Buried wiring needs care, too. Oklahoma’s red clay soil swells when it’s wet and shrinks when it dries out, which can shift and stress shallow wire runs over time. We plan routes and use proper burial-rated cable so your landscape lighting keeps working season after season.

Our Low Voltage Installation Process

We start by talking with you about what you want to connect and where to connect it. We’ll walk through your home, review the rooms involved, and determine the best routes for each cable. This is also when we check your attic, crawlspace, and walls for any obstacles that might affect the job.

Next, we plan a clean layout. For network wiring, that often means bringing cables back to one central spot, like a closet or utility area, so your modem, router, and other equipment stay organized. We’ll recommend the right cable type for each run, so you’re not stuck having to upgrade again in a few years.

On installation day, we protect your floors and furniture before we get started. We fish wires through walls and ceilings with as little disruption as possible, which takes extra care in older midtown homes with plaster and lath. Every cable gets labeled, terminated, and mounted with clean wall plates.

Before we leave, we test each connection to make sure it’s working at full strength. We’ll show you where everything runs, answer your questions, and clean up the work area. You’re left with a system that works well now and is easy to service or expand later.

Low Voltage vs. Standard Electrical Wiring

Standard electrical wiring in your home carries 120 or 240 volts. It powers your outlets, lights, and large appliances, such as your AC unit and water heater. Low-voltage wiring typically carries 50 volts or less and is used for signals, data, and small devices like doorbells, thermostats, and cameras.

Because low-voltage systems carry less power, the cables are thinner, and the installation rules differ. That doesn’t mean it can be run just anywhere. Low-voltage cable needs to be kept a safe distance from standard electrical lines, since running them too close together can cause interference that slows your internet or creates static and hum in audio and video.

Proper installation also helps protect your equipment. Spring storm season in Oklahoma brings plenty of lightning, and power surges can travel through network, cable, and doorbell lines just like regular wiring. Good grounding and surge protection help keep your routers, cameras, and smart devices safe. Since our team handles both types of wiring, we can ensure the two systems work side by side as they should.
